Alola Supports Women's Congress Across Timor-Leste

Same Women discuss local priorities

The impact of Alola's District Support Worker (DSW) program is far reaching for women across Timor-Leste. With a local worker now employed in all 13 districts, the DSWs provide support, referral and information for women's groups in remote areas.

The National Women's Congress is held every four years and this year, the women's network, REDE Feto, held 13 district based congress meetings ahead of the National Congress to be held in Dili in September. As a member of REDE Feto, Alola took responsibility for the meeting in Same. Over 150 women attended from all over ManuFahi/Same district.

In addition, the DSWs played a crucial role across every district, distributing Congress information to women in remote areas, and attracting large numbers to the meetings. Our team received many messages of appreciation from District Administrators and other local agencies for the wonderful work of the DSWs.

We are very grateful to NET, Fokus and Norad from Norway, who provide the funds for this successful and important program which is extending Alola's reach into remote areas of Timor-Leste.

Go to the Alola AGM page for photos of the innaugural meeting and to view the Woman of the Year 2008 film.

Alola’s slogan – “Feto Forte – Nasaun Forte”  “Strong Women, Strong Nation” continues to inspire us all. For we know that when women find a voice and assume leadership roles in the community, the entire community benefits.

The Alola Foundation extends warmest thanks to all Alola Supporters.
